Based on an idea by Andrew Alford Creative and Brandon Durham, and designed and developed by Durham through Small Parade, BEIGE FORCE!! is a game about the rise of aspirational mediocrity in hospitality design and the fearless creative minds who are fighting back. A battle between the stale enemy forces who suck the joy out of the hotel landscape, and the heroes who refuse to sit back and accept bland and boring as the status quo.
The start button was pushed when Andrew posed the question, “What if we made a 1980s-inspired arcade game, but instead of aliens, you’re shooting the worst invader of all… BEIGE?” That was the entire brief. After brainstorming for about an hour, the foundation was laid. The player should be the AAC logo, the enemies should explode in color, and every sound in the game should be made with our own mouths. (They are, with Andrew’s 14-year-old daughter in the mix too. Turn it up!)
Let’s be clear. Nobody needed this. A studio that designs hotels proves nothing about their interiors work by developing a retro shoot-em-up arcade game — except the one thing a portfolio can’t say out loud: we would rather make something bold and eccentric over something safe and forgettable. At the end of the day, creativity will always win the war.
Want your own custom game?
Small Parade now offers anyone a chance to wage their own wars by offering custom video game designs that can live on a website or be built into a Gen X worthy physical arcade cabinet. Imagine a restaurant or bar game with characters that align with their concept. Or maybe a trade show booth feature where clients can shoot the fudge out of your competition. Or maybe a custom game you could gift to your divorced best friend so they can blast the bajeebus out of their dirtbag ex. (DIRTBAG FORCE! has a great ring to it!)
Included with each custom-built game is a web interface for the client where they can modify many aspects of the games themselves and deploy safely, whether to a physical arcade cabinet, to their website, or wherever their game is used.
If you want your own high score for your business or loved ones, reach out to Brandon Durham at Small Parade with any questions you might have.
